About Me

MAKE YOUR DAMN BED is a blog for people buried under their clutter and bogged down by the seemingly never ending to do list. Here, you will find straightforward ways to get your shit together and uncover your passions by decluttering your home and your life.

My name is Abigail and I live in Glenside, Pennsylvania with my husband and two children. I am a stay at home mama and a family photographer.

My journey of decluttering started at the end of 2015. A year earlier, we had moved from Chicago to Pennsylvania and had just bought our first home. After living in apartment after apartment for the previous eight years, I was ecstatic to fill the multiple rooms with whatever furniture I could get my hands on. Target, thrift stores, my mom’s attic, and Ikea were all places I frequented to find those missing pieces. The stuff accumulated and the ability to keep things clean and tidy dwindled. I figured that this was just a natural consequence of being a parent to a toddler. Life is just too busy to be able to keep a home orderly and beautiful and that is that. I was wrong.

Decluttering made me realize that I could be present with my kids AND have a neat home to enjoy with them. That life doesn’t have to be crazy busy all the time. That my family would reap the benefits of having a tidy home. That my time was much more precious than I had previously been aware of and that there were so many other things I wanted to do with my life other than fill my home with more crap.

After going through the stuff in my home, I started examining my hobbies, ideas, social plans and habits to decide if these things were really worth my time and energy. This process of cleaning house has changed my life for the better and continues to teach me about who I am today and what I want in the future. My hope in writing this blog is to provide you with practical ways to eliminate the clutter in your life that is holding you back from living the life you want to greet each morning.
